Abstract

In this research, "A357" aluminum base nanocomposites reinforced with magnesium oxide nanoparticles with weight percentages of 0.5, 1 and 1.5 in different conditions such as different cooling rates of the melt and alloy state made using stir casting method. Numerous tests have determined and evaluated their mechanical properties such as Young's modulus, yield strength, ultimate tensile strength, stiffness, change in length during yield, change in length during failure, fracture toughness and hardness. According to the results, it was found that by adding magnesium oxide nanoparticles to A357 aluminum, the mechanical properties of the resulting nanocomposite are far better than the base alloy. It was also found that the optimal percentage range of magnesium oxide additive to increase the yield and ultimate tensile strength is between 0.5 and 1 Percent, to increase the Young's modulus by about 1 Percent, to increase the the toughness and the elongation is about 0.5 Percent.
