Abstract
With the development of unmanned aerial vehicle technology, increasing the efficiency and operational capabilities of small-scale turbine engines has become increasingly important. So far, converting microturbine jets to other types of microturbine shaft-driven propellers or microturbine ducted fans has been one way to improve operational efficiency. Previous research has indicated theoretical and technical challenges in directly converting a microturbine jet engine to a microturbine ducted fan. This research proposes an innovative technique of clustering multiple microturbine jets in a rotating configuration around a central axis and combining their power outputs to achieve a microturbine ducted fan design, addressing these challenges. The results show that a microturbine ducted fan engine designed with a power integration configuration of multiple microturbine jets in the central core provides technical and operational capabilities similar to known ducted fan engines, while offering specialized benefits suitable for a variety of aircraft applications. This can help solve the problem of providing a suitable and efficient propulsion system for a wide range of unmanned aerial vehicles. This research focuses on introducing the design concept and demonstrating the proof of concept. It paves the way for more detailed future studies examining the technical details of clustering multiple microturbine jets and converting them to other aircraft propulsion systems.
